Motion Investments LLC ("Motion Investments," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Motion personal finance application available at motioninvestments.llc ("the App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the App.
By creating an account, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide the App's functionality:
- Account information: Your email address, collected at signup and stored via Supabase Auth. If you sign in with Google, we also receive your name and profile picture as authorized by your Google account settings.
- Profile data: Your display name, timezone, and app preferences — entered by you and stored in your account.
- Planner and journal data: Daily plans, weekly goals, trading journal entries, and habit tracking data — entered by you and stored in your account.
- Financial account data (optional): If you choose to connect bank or investment accounts via Plaid, we receive read-only balance and transaction data from those accounts solely to display in your personal portfolio dashboard. This data is never viewed, accessed, or shared by Motion Investments, its owners, or any other members. No human at Motion Investments can see your financial account data — it flows directly from Plaid into your private dashboard and is protected by row-level security policies that prevent any cross-user or administrative access.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and operate the Motion app and its features
- To display your financial data, portfolio, and trading journal to you
- To authenticate your identity and secure your account
- To improve the app based on aggregate, anonymized usage patterns
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your personal or financial data with third parties except as described in Section 4.
3. Data Privacy — What We Cannot See
Motion Investments is designed so that your personal financial data is not accessible to us. Specifically:
- Your account data is protected by Supabase Row Level Security (RLS). No Motion Investments employee or owner can query or view another user's personal data.
- If you connect financial accounts via Plaid, your bank credentials are never transmitted to or stored by Motion Investments. Plaid handles all credential management directly. We receive only tokenized, read-only access to your account data.
- Plaid tokens used to access your financial data are encrypted at rest.
4. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and storage infrastructure. Data is stored on Supabase's encrypted servers. Supabase Privacy Policy
- Google — optional sign-in via Google OAuth. If you use Google Sign-In, Google shares your name, email, and profile picture with us. Google Privacy Policy
- Stripe — payment processing for paid features. We do not store your full card number. Stripe Privacy Policy
- Plaid — financial account connection (optional). Used only if you choose to link a bank or investment account. Plaid Privacy Policy
- CoinGecko — public cryptocurrency price data. No personal data is transmitted to CoinGecko.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account and app data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all data associated with your account — including your profile, journal entries, planner data, and any linked financial account tokens — is permanently deleted within 30 days.
You can delete your account at any time from within the App under Settings.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you (available in-app)
- Correct inaccurate data (editable in-app)
- Delete your account and all associated data (in-app via Settings)
- Export your data (planner and journal entries can be exported as PDF from the app)
- Request a copy of your data by contacting us at the email below
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what data is collected and the right to opt out of any sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
7. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including TLS 1.2+ encryption in transit, AES-256 encryption at rest via Supabase, and row-level security policies preventing cross-user data access. Multi-factor authentication is active on all Motion Investments administrative accounts. Server access requires SSH key authentication — password login is disabled.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via our Discord community or an in-app notice. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
